DEEDS Program for Recognition of Volunteerism
Many Retirees, spouses and surviving spouses are
actively involved in volunteer programs with non-profit, charitable
organizations in their communities. To recognize these people for their
efforts, ExxonMobil established the DEEDS program in 1985. DEEDS is an acronym
for
D-Dedication, E-Enthusiasm (or ExxonMobil), E-Extra Effort
(or Employee), D-Discipline, and S-Service.
Our EACMA "DEEDS" program should not be confused with
either the ExxonMobil
Volunteer Involvement Program (VIP) or the
Mobil
Retiree Volunteer Program (MVP) which are discussed, separately, below.
The purpose of the DEEDS program is to encourage
retirees, their spouses and surviving spouses to channel their energies into
charitable activities, to encourage ExxonMobil Retiree Clubs to participate as
a group in various charitable activities, to enhance the positive image of
ExxonMobil retiree groups within their communities and to provide a positive
community service activity to increase public visibility of ExxonMobil Retiree
Clubs. Exxon Mobil also believes that volunteerism benefits not only the
receiving charitable organization, but also the person who is actively
involved.
All ExxonMobil retirees, their spouses and surviving
spouses who perform 50 or more hours of volunteer work for charitable, social,
welfare, health, civic, scientific, medical, literary, educational or cultural
organizations qualify for DEEDS recognition. Eligible organizations include
such groups as local fire departments, ambulance, first aid groups, museums,
theaters, hospitals and libraries. Service provided to religious or political
groups is excluded. However, a church program providing charitable services for
the community beyond its membership (for example, Meals on Wheels) is eligible
and should be recognized by DEEDS.
ExxonMobil will provide an annual recognition memento
for each person who meets the eligibility and reporting requirements. The
ExxonMobil Retiree Club Morris Area also invites eligible members to an annual
breakfast to further recognize their volunteer activity.
Each year all members of the ExxonMobil Retiree Club
Morris Area are encouraged to participate in the DEEDS program and provide
details of their volunteer activity for the previous year to the DEEDS
Coordinator. The tabulated responses are submitted to ExxonMobil Retiree
Affairs by April 15.
The EACMA DEEDS SUMMARY table (above) shows that in
2006, sixty-eight EACMA volunteers provided 13,487 hours of community service
to 72 organizations.
Art Thomas (DEEDS@EACMA.org)
is the current DEEDS Coordinator and invites questions and comments. To
report your volunteer service hours, the form near the top of this page is
