ExxonMobil Death Benefits

What you can do now to make things easier later for your spouse of other beneficiaries to claim your death benefits.

Can you answer the following questions?

Do you know where your marriage certificate and your spouse's birth certificate are?

Do your dependents know what information the ExxonMobil Benefits Service Center (EMBSC) needs in the event of your death?

If you answered "no" to either question, your spouse or other dependents could be in for some frustration when it's time to process your retiree death benefits.

Here's how to make it a smooth process:

Each retiree should prepare a special folder to be used to contact the EMBSC in the event of their death. It should include:

  • Marriage certificate and, if married, spouse's actual birth certificate
(Need an ORIGINAL birth certificate, not a copy or passport, etc.)
  • Social security numbers of both retiree and spouse
  • If retiree and/or spouse were married previously, copy of divorce decree or spouse's death certificate, whichever terminated the marriage(s)
  • Instructions to notify the EMBSC as soon as possible following the retiree's death
  • Make sure your spouse or other dependents know where this folder is located and why it's important.

    Reporting a death

    Contact the EMBSC at 1-800-682-2847

The caller should provide the following information: the deceased's Social Security number, date of death, and the name, address and telephone number of the spouse or other survivor. Whenever possible, the call should be made within one week of the death.

Upon notification of the death, the EMBSC will send a Family Status Affidavit to the surviving spouse/beneficiary. When the affidavit is received by the EMBSC, along with an original death certificate, the process for the payment of any retiree death benefits begins.
